The account-level Policy Library allows you to create, save, and reuse your own policy snippets within a single Alloy account. Unlike the Alloy Policy Library, which contains standardized policies maintained by Alloy, the account-level Library enables your team to build, customize, and manage snippets (modular blocks of logic) that reflect your unique compliance, risk, and operational requirements
Overview
Your account’s Policy Library enables you to:
- Create custom policies tailored to your organization
- Maintain reusable policy logic across workflows
- Standardize internal decisioning criteria
Snippets stored in your Library can be used across workflows, helping ensure consistency and reducing duplication.
Your Library is visible only within your organization.
Permissions
Access to create, edit, or delete snippets in an account’s Library is managed by user role and permissions.
- Users who can view workflows can view the snippet list and snippet versions.
- Users who can edit workflows can:
- Create new snippets and save new versions
- Publish and unpublish snippet versions
- Archive and unarchive snippets
- Update snippet details (name, description, labels, etc.)
These are managed in the Settings page of your account. If you do not see the option to manage policies, contact your Alloy administrator.
Creating a Snippet in the Library
- Navigate to Workflows > Snippets in your Alloy dashboard.
- Click Create Snippet.
- Enter snippet details:
- Name (required)
- Description (how and when to use it)
- Use Case and Entity Type used for filtering and search later
- Build the snippet in the editor using the same tools you use for building workflows (nodes, tags, conditions, etc.).
- Click Save to create a draft version.
Publishing and Managing Snippet Versions
- When you first create a snippet, it is saved without a published version. Draft snippets do not appear in the Policy Library browser yet.
- At most one version of a snippet can be published at a time.
- Unpublishing a snippet removes it from the library browser, but does not impact any workflows where it has already been inserted.
To publish or unpublish a snippet:
- Go to Workflows > Snippets.
- From a version’s row, select the icon on the far right to Publish or Unpublish.
- You can also publish a snippet directly from the editor:
- From the ellipses menu, select Publish Version.
To update snippet details (including name and description), open the snippet and select Edit details from the Policy Library UI. Supported fields can be edited without changing the underlying logic.
In addition, admins can archive snippets that should no longer be used.
Using Snippets in Workflows
Your Library snippets are published to the Policy Library modal in the workflow editor.
Browsing and inserting Snippets
- Open a workflow in the workflow editor.
- From the Add menu, select Add Snippet from Policy Library.
- In the Policy Library modal, use the tabs to switch between:
- Alloy (Alloy-curated snippets)
- [Your Account Name] (snippets specific to your account)
- Search or filter by:
- Name
- Date
- Integration
- Region (only for Alloy snippets)
- Click View Details to preview the snippet’s logic and services before using it.
- Click Add to Workflow to insert the snippet.
