The Allowlist and Denylist are Alloy services that can be used to automatically approve or deny evaluations based on one or more input PII elements. In order for this service to work as intended, the Allowlist service or Denylist service must be added to a workflow and the Allowlist or Denylist must contain PII.
This article specifically covers the CSV Import feature. See our article on Evaluation Summary: Add to List for the other option.
This article will cover the following sections:
- Accessing Denylist or Allowlist Settings
- Considerations for List Settings
- Import via a CSV File From Your Computer
- Manually enter your data
- CSV column headers
Accessing Denylist or Allowlist Settings
Your organization’s Allowlist and Denylist can be accessed and managed from the Settings. There are separate settings for Denylist and Allowlist, but each page has the same options. To reach these settings, navigate to Settings, then select Denylist or Allowlist from the Settings menu.
If you don't see the Allowlist or Denylist service available in your Workflow or the Settings option, please contact support@alloy.com.
Considerations for List Settings
After navigating to the Allowlist or Denylist settings page, select an option to update your list. You can add to your existing list using the Update List option or you can entirely replace your current list with a new list using the Replace List option.
There are a couple of important considerations for either option:
- All fields are optional
- The import process will automatically get rid of blank cells and submit with the data that clients currently have
- Some columns have a required format; an “info” icon will be to the right of the column name with more information on the requirements
- Column headers in a CSV file are optional and the order of columns does not matter
- The CSV and manual import option is limited to a size of 30,000 rows per upload
Import via a CSV File
Upload Step
To import a CSV file from the computer, start by clicking the Upload data from file button. The supported file types for the CSV are .csv
and .tsv
.
If you’re unsure of which format to create your CSV, click the text You can also download a template to get started from the modal to download a template. All columns in the template are optional.
Set Header
1. Once the file is selected from the computer, you will be on the Set Header step. The modal will show a preview of the CSV file and you will be asked to confirm if the first row contains the column headers.
2. If headers were included in the file, you will need to let the CSV importer know which row contains the header so it’s not imported as PII data.
- Click Yes if the first row contains and you will be taken to the next step
- Click Select another row to select a different row. Once you confirm the row, you will be taken to the next step
- Click No if your file doesn’t contain any headers and you will be taken to the next step
3. You also have the option to change your encoding. By default, the best encoding option will be selected based on the CSV file.
Match Columns
On the Match Columns step, you have the option to change the header mapping, confirm header or ignore a column from being imported.
1. Confirm your headers on this step or choose to ignore a column.
- If you included a header in your CSV file and it was set in the Set Header step, Alloy will do its best to match the header to the correct mapping.
- If the mapping looks correct, there will be a Matched validation next to the column. You can either click Confirm Mapping or take no action (Confirm Mapping is selected for you by default).
- If you do not need a column to be imported, you can click Ignore this column. Alloy will ignore the column when completing the upload. If you made an error in your selection, you can click the Edit button to restore the column.
2. If you need to change the mapping, the mapping does not look correct, Alloy was unable to automatically match, or you did not include a header, you can select the header from the drop-down:
3. To proceed to the next step, click the Next button at the bottom. This will take you to the Review step.
Review
On the Review step, you will have the option to review the PII data and make any final adjustments. If there are any formatting errors that need to be corrected, they will be surfaced at this step by a cell highlighted in red.
1. Filter for problematic rows by toggling the Only show rows with problems option.
2. Certain columns have a required format. You can hover over the available info tip to learn more about the specific requirements for a header.
3. At this step, you can also input any new data manually into any column or row.
4. You may also click Finish to start the import. If any formatting errors have been unresolved, you can discard those entire rows and submit the rest.
Finish
After you click Finish you will need to confirm one final time you are ready to import your file.
Note: If you selected the option Replace List, you will need to check a box to confirm that you understand deleting the existing list to replace it with a new list before you can proceed with the update to the list.
Manually Inputting Data
Upload Step
On the Upload step, input at least one value to the table manually, you will be on the Review step.
Review
1. From the Review step, you can manually input as much PII data as you need. Inputting data into an empty row will create a new empty row below it
2. If there are any formatting errors, you can filter for only problematic rows by toggling the Only show rows with problems option. Data cells with a formatting error will be highlighted in red.
3. Certain columns have a required format. You can hover over the available info tip to learn more about the specific requirements for a header.
4. You can click Finish when you’re done and click through any final prompts. If any errors have been unresolved, you can discard any rows with errors.
Finish
After you click Finish you will need to confirm once more that you are ready to import. You will have two options on how to update the data.
Note: If you selected the option Replace List, you will need to check a box to confirm that you understand deleting the existing list to replace it with a new list before you can proceed with the update to the list.
